Aformic raises $6.95M seed led by Veteran Ventures Capital for factory robots aimed at the defence industrial base

TLDR

  • Veteran Ventures Capital led a $6.95M seed in Aformic, a maker of autonomous mobile robots for factories.12
  • Defence is a little under 20 per cent of its business, per chief executive Michal Fiuk.1
  • No valuation or total raised was disclosed, and the revenue and order figures are company claims.13

Aformic, of Duncan, South Carolina, announced on 4 November a $6.95M seed round that its release calls its first institutional round, led by Veteran Ventures Capital (VVC) through its Fund II.12 ff Venture Capital, Red Beard Ventures and Mana Ventures took part, and Aformic's own release adds Alamo Angels and a group of strategic angels.23 VVC founder Derren Burrell joins the board.2 Aformic says the money funds forward-deployed engineering and sales, work on its Qursor software platform and hardware for new uses, including AI data centre construction and maintenance.3 Tectonic reports the plan also covers more military and defence customers and ultra-heavy-lift robots.1 No valuation, total raised or debt element is stated.123

The company designs and deploys autonomous mobile robots and fleet-management software, including underride platforms and autonomous forklifts that use lidar mapping and Qursor to move materials inside factories and distribution centres.2 Fiuk is a West Point graduate and US Army veteran.2 Aformic's release claims more than $34M in orders to date and hundreds of robots in production, with customers that include Toyota, Oshkosh Defense, Hitachi and First Solar.3 Tectonic reports $10M in revenue last year, which Fiuk expects to roughly double; neither release states revenue, and none of these figures is independently verified.13

On the defence angle, the VVC release says the round will speed expansion "across North American manufacturing and defense industrial markets" and points to "multiple robots in various Fortune 500 companies and Tier 1 defense OEMs".2 Burrell is quoted as saying: "With VVC helping open doors across the defense industrial base, Aformic will be a category leader."2 Fiuk told Tectonic he is looking to grow "in the aerospace and defense vertical", while the reporter describes it as "a true dual-use play".1 The release also cites US Army spending of $18B to modernise depots; that figure is unsourced in the release and has not been checked here.2

On investors, VVC describes itself as investing in "dual-use national security technologies" with a focus on veteran-led companies, and Tectonic puts its Fund II at $60M.12 In the same field it took part in the $60M Series A of Vatn Systems, an autonomous underwater vehicle maker, through Fund II in December 2025.4 It also backed Radian Forge, which does robotic wire-arc additive manufacturing of metal parts for the Navy, in a seed round in September 2026.5 Among the co-investors, ff Venture Capital's own site lists robotics and security among its focus areas, and FlyFocus says the firm led its first institutional round of EUR 4.5M; FlyFocus makes unmanned aircraft for Poland's armed forces.6

Why it matters: a seed-stage factory-robot company is being backed by a veteran-focused dual-use fund to reach the defence industrial base, even though defence is still under a fifth of its business, which suggests investors see production-line automation as part of defence capacity as well as weapons.12 The traction numbers come from the company, so treat them as claims until a customer or contract confirms them.13
