CrowdStrike to buy Fiddler AI and Dreadnode in a reported $495M pair of AI security deals

· VC Investment

TLDR

  • CrowdStrike will buy Fiddler AI and Dreadnode; the Wall Street Journal reports about $400M and $95M respectively.123
  • CrowdStrike disclosed no price, says payment is mostly cash and expects both deals to close by 31 January 2027.124
  • Backers include Lightspeed, Lux Capital, Decibel and In-Q-Tel; no investor returns have been reported.56

CrowdStrike said on 3 November that it will acquire two AI security start-ups, Fiddler AI and Dreadnode, announcing the deals at its Fal.Con Europe conference.12 It disclosed no price. The Wall Street Journal reported about $400M for Fiddler and about $95M for Dreadnode, a figure TechCrunch and SecurityWeek relay and that no outlet has confirmed independently.34 CrowdStrike says each price is expected to be paid mostly in cash, with a portion in vesting stock, and expects both deals to close in its fiscal fourth quarter, which ends on 31 January 2027, subject to customary conditions.124

Fiddler, which makes observability software for monitoring AI agents inside companies, will become Falcon Observe in CrowdStrike's Falcon platform. Dreadnode, which automates security testing of AI models, applications and agents, will become an automated AI security testing product, and its team joins CrowdStrike's Cyber Superintelligence Lab.12 TechCrunch frames the deals as CrowdStrike moving to capture a share of a fast-growing market for securing AI agents.3 SecurityWeek notes CrowdStrike announced plans in January to buy SGNL for $740M and Seraphic for a reported $420M, after agreeing to acquire Pangea in September 2025.4

Fiddler's last round was a $30M Series C in January 2026 led by RPS Ventures, with existing investors including Lightspeed, Lux Capital and Insight Partners; the company put its total funding at $100M, while TechCrunch cites PitchBook for about $99M.35 Dreadnode, founded in 2023, raised a $14M Series A in February 2025 led by Decibel with Next Frontier Capital, In-Q-Tel, Sands Capital and Indie VC.6 On those figures the reported prices are roughly four times Fiddler's funding and nearly seven times Dreadnode's, on simple arithmetic. No source reports what the investors receive.

Both targets have defence links, drawn from their own materials. Fiddler says its platform is "deployed at scale at some of the largest institutions on the planet, including the US Navy", and describes a Navy programme office using underwater vehicles to identify threats and recognise underwater ordnance.57 It also says In-Q-Tel first invested in 2019.8 Dreadnode describes its team as "offensive ML operators and researchers with military and government roots" and counts In-Q-Tel among its Series A investors.69 CrowdStrike's two releases do not mention defence, and no contract value is disclosed for either company.12

Decibel, the lead of Dreadnode's round, publishes AI-era security investments including Nebulock (agentic threat hunting) and Ent (endpoint security).1011 RPS Ventures, Fiddler's Series C lead, is listed by a third-party database as an investor in Blumira, a threat-detection company.12

Why it matters: if the Journal's figures hold, a buyer is paying a multiple of funding raised for both companies, and for Dreadnode the exit comes about 21 months after a $14M Series A, a sign that incumbents are buying AI-assurance tools rather than building them.346 The defence ties come from the companies' own pages, so watch whether CrowdStrike discloses terms or contracts when the deals close.1279
