Imagery shows Crimea drone shelters

· OSINT

TLDR

  • Dnipro Osint says new satellite imagery shows over 20 earth-bermed shelters under construction at Hvardiiske airfield in Crimea.12
  • It also counts about 40 smaller "garages" and at least one hangar it attributes to drone-strike damage.12
  • The channel did not say who took the images or when, and all coverage traces to it.1

Dnipro Osint, a Ukrainian OSINT analyst who goes by Harbuz, reported on 26 October that new satellite imagery shows more than 20 small shelters protected by earth berms and about 40 smaller "garages" at the Hvardiiske military airfield in occupied Crimea.12 The channel says the structures are meant for storing, servicing and preparing Geran drones for launch.12 Geran is the name Russia gives its Shahed-type drones.1

Why it matters: the post shows a common imagery workflow: mark new construction and strike damage on commercial imagery, then read launch practice from the layout. The limit is that the imagery provider and capture date were not disclosed, so the changes cannot be dated or checked against other passes.1

Driving the news:

  • Dnipro Osint says the base uses mobile launch platforms instead of fixed launchers: drones are loaded onto equipped vehicles and launched from the runway.12
  • At least one hangar shows damage the analyst attributes to a drone strike. The analyst marked the new shelters and the damaged section on the posted images.12
  • Euromaidan Press says Ukraine's General Staff has listed Hvardiiske among Russian drone launch areas in every daily report since 7 October, including the night of 27 October, when Russia launched 280 Shahed-type drones, 69 of them jet-powered.1

The big picture: Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) said on 3 July that it hit two hangars at Hvardiiske holding Shaheds and aviation equipment, and the General Staff said strikes on 13 October damaged four drone storage sites nearby, according to Euromaidan Press.1 The same outlet says another channel reported on 13 October that Russia had nearly finished a launch site for jet-powered Geran-5 drones near Millerovo in Rostov Oblast.1 Coverage lists different earlier strike dates (Euromaidan Press: 24 June, 3 July, 3 August, 13 October; Ukrainska Pravda and 112 Ukraine: 10 August, 17 August, 1 September), so the strike history is not reconciled here.123

The other side: the shelter purpose, the "garage" count and the cause of the hangar damage are the analyst's own readings of undated imagery. No Russian statement and no Ukrainian official comment on the new construction appears in the coverage reviewed.

Single-source note: every claim about the new construction traces to Dnipro Osint's 26 October post. Ukrainska Pravda restates it, 112 Ukraine relays it via Espreso.tv, and Euromaidan Press adds General Staff context. The images were not independently reviewed here.
