TLDR

  • Matternet and Swisslog Healthcare's TransLogic will sell Matternet's M3 drone delivery system to TransLogic's hospital customers.123
  • First-year deployments target hospital systems in California, Florida and Arizona; the release names no hospital, price or order count.12
  • DroneXL says the M3 has no FAA type certificate; DroneLife says it still needs regulatory approvals.23

Matternet, Inc. (OTCQB: MTTN) and TransLogic, a Swisslog Healthcare company, announced on 29 October a partnership under which TransLogic's sales team will act as a distribution channel for Matternet's M3 drone delivery systems.1 The release says Swisslog Healthcare's automated transport systems operate in more than 2,300 North American hospitals, including 18 of the top 20 US hospitals, and that TransLogic's customer base exceeds 3,000 hospitals worldwide.1 In the first year, it says, the companies will work to bring drone delivery to hospital systems in California, Florida and Arizona, moving medications, laboratory specimens and urgent supplies between facilities.1 The M3 carries packages of up to 11 pounds within a 10-mile service radius, operates autonomously and is stored and charged in an M3 Dock that can be installed on a hospital rooftop or other space, according to the release.1 The companies also say they will explore having Swisslog Healthcare's field service organisation install Matternet infrastructure at hospital sites.1 Cory Kwarta, chief executive of Swisslog Healthcare, said hospitals have automated what happens inside their walls and "this partnership extends that automation to everything outside them".1

DroneXL reports that the M3 was unveiled on 28 September with commercial service targeted for the second half of 2027, and that the Federal Register held no airworthiness criteria for an M3 as of 29 October.2 It says the M2, the aircraft flying Matternet's hospital routes today, is the only delivery drone with a standard FAA type certificate, and that the release does not say which aircraft would fly the first-year deployments.2 Citing Matternet's 10-Q filed on 19 August, DroneXL also reports revenue of $121,439 for the quarter ended 30 June and a going-concern warning from management.2 DroneLife says the partnership does not guarantee new customers or deployments, and that the immediate impact depends on hospital adoption, successful M3 deployments and regulatory approvals.3

Why it matters: the deal gives Matternet a sales channel into hospitals that already buy TransLogic's tube systems, but the release names no customer, price or order count and DroneXL reports the M3 has no FAA type certificate, so the California, Florida and Arizona deployments remain targets.123
