Imagery shows Salavat refinery damage

· OSINT

TLDR

  • Analyst Dnipro Osint says imagery shows repair cranes at AVT-4 and a damaged overpass near AVT-6 at Salavat refinery.12
  • Damage to both units could halt primary refining at the plant until repairs finish, the analyst says.12
  • The reports give no image date, and a September strike also hit AVT-6, per ZN.ua.2

OSINT analyst Dnipro Osint has published satellite images that, the analyst says, show damage to two primary processing units at the Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat refinery in Bashkortostan after a Ukrainian drone attack on 8 October.12

Why it matters: Salavat is one of Russia's largest refining and petrochemical complexes, with capacity of up to 10 million tonnes of hydrocarbon feedstock a year, and the analyst says the AVT-4 and AVT-6 units together handle all of its primary crude refining.12

Driving the news:

  • Repair cranes are visible near AVT-4, which the analyst says indicates restoration work.12
  • A cross-shaped overpass near AVT-6 is damaged, disrupting the unit's operation. Censor.NET's English text calls it a jetty; ZN.ua's Ukrainian original says "estakada", an overpass.12
  • Ukraine's General Staff confirmed the 8 October strike, and the Kyiv Independent reported images and videos showing thick smoke and fire at the site.3
  • Bashkortostan authorities declared an air raid alert but had not reported on the aftermath, Meduza said on the day.4

By the numbers:

  • About 10 million tonnes of crude a year across AVT-4 and AVT-6, per the analyst.12
  • Up to 10 million tonnes of hydrocarbon feedstock a year for the whole complex, per the General Staff.3
  • Russia's defence ministry said it shot down 399 Ukrainian drones overnight across Russian regions, Crimea and the Black Sea, not only at Salavat.4

The big picture: Salavat has been hit before. ZN.ua says Ukrainian forces struck the plant on the night of 24 September, its second attack that month, damaging the ELOU-AVT-6 unit, and the Kyiv Independent cites an SBU source on a September strike.23 Meduza reports that drone strikes forced refineries to suspend or halt operations, contributing to a summer fuel crisis, and that President Zelensky promised in early October to step up attacks on refineries.4

The other side: neither report gives the date of the satellite images, and AVT-6 was reportedly damaged in September too, so the pictures as described cannot separate 8 October damage from earlier damage. The claim that primary refining is fully stopped is the analyst's inference from unit capacity: Censor.NET words it as "could lead to a halt", and no operational data was cited.12

Single-source note: every imagery claim traces to one Telegram analyst, relayed by Censor.NET and ZN.ua. We did not see the original post or any independent imagery analysis.12
