Salesforce to acquire Rune Technologies, the Anduril alumni's military logistics software start-up, on undisclosed terms
TLDR
- Salesforce agreed on 29 October 2026 to buy Rune Technologies, a military logistics software start-up; terms were not disclosed.12
- Rune's software is used by the US Army and Marine Corps, and works with little or no network connection.12
- Rune raised a $24M Series A led by Human Capital in July 2025, with a16z and Point72 among its backers.34
Salesforce said on 29 October 2026 that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Rune Technologies, which it calls an edge-native technology provider for logistics and sustainment operations for the US military and allied nations.1 Reuters reports that financial terms were not immediately disclosed, and Salesforce expects the deal to close in the fourth quarter of its fiscal year 2027, subject to customary closing conditions.12
Rune was founded in 2024 by David Tuttle and Peter Goldsborough, who both worked at Anduril before starting the company, according to Salesforce and Washington Technology.14 Salesforce says its software helps frontline teams forecast supply needs, allocate resources and plan routes in denied, degraded, intermittent or limited connectivity environments, and that it is already deployed with the US Army and US Marine Corps.1 TechCrunch reported in July 2025 that Rune's flagship product, TyrOS, uses deep-learning models to forecast demand for personnel, transport, equipment and food, and runs "cloud-capable, but not cloud-required" so it can work from a disconnected laptop.3 Those are company descriptions; the sources give no contract values or user numbers.
For the buyer, Salesforce calls Rune its "most significant national security-focused acquisition" and will fold it into Missionforce, its defence business.1 Salesforce says that unit is growing 80 per cent year on year, serves all six US military branches and holds a 10-year Army contract with a $5.6 billion ceiling.1 Dealroom notes that a ceiling is not guaranteed spending.5 Reuters adds that Salesforce has been buying AI businesses as investors worry that fast AI adoption could erode demand for traditional software, citing its agreed purchases of Braze for about $5.66 billion last week, Fin for $3.6 billion this year and Informatica for $8 billion last year.2
On the investors, Washington Technology reported that Rune's $24 million Series A in July 2025 was led by Human Capital, with Pax VC and Washington Harbour Partners participating and existing backers Andreessen Horowitz, Point72 Ventures, XYZ Venture Capital and Forward Deployed VC staying in.4 TechCrunch adds that executives at Palantir and Anduril are among its backers.3 Washington Technology notes that Human Capital has backed Anduril in earlier rounds, which is the lead investor's visible link to the defence field; the sources do not list its other defence holdings.4 The Salesforce release and the Reuters report do not mention Rune's investors, its total funding or what backers will receive from the sale.12
Why it matters: a start-up founded in 2024 and selling AI logistics software to the US Army and Marine Corps is being bought by a large enterprise software vendor just over 15 months after its Series A, but with no price disclosed, investor returns cannot be judged.124 Watch whether terms emerge when the deal closes.
