Teledyne FLIR launches Ranger R10-3DX, a compact counter-drone radar, at AUSA 2026
TLDR
- Teledyne FLIR Defense launched the Ranger R10-3DX compact counter-drone radar at AUSA 2026 in Washington, D.C.12
- It detects micro-UAS beyond 3 kilometres, extending counter-drone detection to sites that could not justify a full-scale radar.12
Teledyne FLIR Defense launched Ranger R10-3DX, a compact mid-range counter-unmanned aircraft system radar, at the AUSA Annual Meeting and Exposition in Washington, D.C.12 The company says the radar is built to support counter-drone, force protection, airport security, border security, and coastal surveillance missions while keeping a small size, weight, and power footprint.1
Using digital beam-forming technology, Ranger R10-3DX provides continuous wide-area coverage and detects micro-UAS targets beyond 3 kilometres, pedestrians beyond 6 kilometres, and light vehicles beyond 12 kilometres.12 A single radar panel delivers 90 degrees of azimuth coverage and up to 60 degrees of elevation; stacking four panels gives operators full 360-degree surveillance.1 The radar incorporates AI-based target classification to distinguish drones from aircraft, birds, pedestrians, and vehicles, and can track multiple targets simultaneously, which the company says makes it effective against complex incursions and emerging drone swarm threats.12
"Small unmanned aircraft continue to present growing security challenges across military installations, airports, and other key infrastructure sites worldwide," said Rob Tarantino, senior vice president of surveillance at Teledyne FLIR Defense. "The Ranger R10-3DX gives operators an affordable, compact, and highly capable radar solution that delivers the early warning and tracking performance needed to counter evolving drone threats."12 The system is rated to MIL-STD-810H and MIL-STD-461G standards and can be configured for fixed-site installation or mounted on mobile platforms, including for use in austere environments.2
Why it matters: a smaller, lower-cost radar that still covers micro-drones at multi-kilometre range extends counter-drone detection to sites, like regional airports and border posts, that couldn't previously justify a full-scale radar installation.
