Ukrainian interceptor drone downs Russian KUB-2E loitering munition in what NAUDI calls a first
TLDR
- NAUDI says the Posipaky unit downed a Russian KUB-2E loitering munition with a General Chereshnia AIR interceptor.12
- The association calls it the first confirmed interception of the weapon by a frontline interceptor drone.12
- Kyiv Post could not independently verify the video's time or location.1
Ukraine's Posipaky interceptor-drone unit shot down a Russian KUB-2E loitering munition in the Zaporizhzhia sector, according to the National Association of Ukrainian Defense Industries (NAUDI), which described it as the first confirmed interception of the weapon by a frontline interceptor drone.12 Kyiv Post says NAUDI made the claim in a Facebook post, that the General Chereshnia FPV team also reported the interception, and that both statements included a short video recorded by the interceptor's onboard camera; Kyiv Post could not independently verify the footage's time or location.1 RBC-Ukraine, which cites NAUDI, gives the same account on 30 October.2
Kyiv Post describes the KUB-2E as a Russian loitering munition developed by the Kalashnikov concern, used against Ukraine and marketed for export, designed to strike personnel, military equipment and drone operator positions, and typically working with a reconnaissance drone that identifies targets while an operator guides the munition by its onboard video feed.1 It cites the Vash Visnyk outlet for a basic-model warhead of about 3 kilograms and a reported range of 25 to 40 kilometres.1 RBC-Ukraine gives the same description of its role.2
Kyiv Post adds that interceptor crews have previously downed Russian reconnaissance aircraft, including a ZALA Z-20 in early January 2026, and that the Brave1 defence innovation cluster credited the General Chereshnia AIR with more than 300 confirmed interceptions of Russian reconnaissance drones by December 2025.1 RBC-Ukraine recalls earlier reports of a General Chereshnia Bullet interceptor hitting a Russian jet-powered Geran-4 drone.2
Why it matters: the claim adds a loitering munition to the Russian drone types that Ukrainian interceptors are reported to have downed, but it rests on a NAUDI post, RBC-Ukraine cites NAUDI, and Kyiv Post could not verify the footage.12
